Gaerea
Gaerea is a Portuguese extreme metal band from Porto, formed in 2016. They are known for their atmospheric, emotionally charged take on post-black metal (with roots in traditional black metal), blending raw intensity, melodic leads, post-rock textures, and cinematic atmospheres. The band members perform masked, maintaining an enigmatic and conceptual identity.
Gaerea started as a bedroom project and evolved into a full band, quickly rising in the underground with a focus on themes of narcissism, self-destruction, misanthropy, mental numbness, and emotional catharsis. They challenge black metal archetypes by incorporating broader influences, evolving from more traditional black metal on early releases to a more expansive, post-black/alt-metal sound on later works.
